Then there’s the World’s Largest Sausage in Mundare, Alberta. 🌭

Standing proudly along the highway, this massive monument has been turning heads, attracting road-trippers, and creating family memories for 25 years. In 2026, Stawnichy’s Mundare Sausage celebrated the landmark’s quarter-century anniversary—and it’s still one of those Alberta attractions that makes you say:

“Okay… we HAVE to stop and take a picture!” 📸

🌭 How Big Is the World’s Largest Sausage?

Let’s just say… it’s not exactly something you’re putting on the BBQ.

The Mundare Giant Sausage stands approximately 42 feet tall and weighs an incredible 12,000 pounds! 😲

That’s a LOT of sausage.

The landmark was created in 2001 with the help of second-generation Stawnichy family owner Edward E. Stawnichy. It was built as a tribute to Stawnichy’s Mundare Sausage, Ukrainian heritage, and the community of Mundare.

And because this is Alberta, naturally it had to be built tough. 💪

The structure was designed to withstand Alberta winds of up to approximately 160 km/h.

Now that’s what we call a properly secured sausage. 😂🌭

🇺🇦 A Giant Landmark With a Big Story

While the Giant Sausage is certainly something to laugh about and photograph, there’s much more behind it than its size.

Mundare has deep Ukrainian-Canadian roots, and Stawnichy’s has been part of that story for generations.

The giant sausage represents family, food, Ukrainian culture, entrepreneurship, and small-town Alberta pride.

Over the years, visitors have turned the landmark into part of their own family traditions.

People have stopped for childhood road trips, family photos, celebrations, wedding pictures—and even some rather permanent tributes from sausage fans. 😅

That’s the thing about great roadside attractions: eventually, the attraction becomes part of people’s memories.

🎉 25 Years of the Giant Sausage

In August 2026, the community celebrated the Giant Sausage’s 25th anniversary during Mundare Agri-Days.

The celebration included a parade featuring the Stawnichy’s sausage car 🚗🌭, candy and pepperoni sticks for the crowd, followed by a community BBQ featuring Kubbie burgers and smokies.

And there was a great community connection behind the celebration too.

Proceeds from the BBQ supported the Edward E. Stawnichy Charitable Foundation, helping turn a fun anniversary celebration into an opportunity to give back to the community. ❤️

🍴 Don’t Just Take a Picture—Grab a Bite!

Of course, you can’t visit the home of one of Alberta’s most famous sausages without sampling some of the food!

Stawnichy’s has grown well beyond its famous sausage, offering a variety of Ukrainian foods and prepared meats.

For visitors, it’s an opportunity to experience a little bit of Alberta history while enjoying the flavours that helped put Mundare on the map.
